- ➤ Fresno State’s Farmworkers Advocacy Club is showing appreciation for local farmworkers by organizing events that highlight their vital work. The club held a social lunch in Madera on Oct. 8 and will host a 5k run fundraiser on December 6—efforts designed to engage students and support those who keep the fields thriving. The Collegian

- ➤ The Better Business Bureau announced that three Fresno County businesses were honored with the 2025 BBB Torch Awards for Ethics for upholding high standards of integrity — the winners are Griswold Fire Protection in Coalinga, Fresno Construction in Fresno, and Auspice Home Care in Fresno. KMPH
- ➤ The Meat Up—a family-owned butcher shop that began in 1954 as King-O-Meat and was revived in 2020 by owners Steven and Cassi Maxey—opened its second location on Nov. 17 at The Row at Heritage Grove near the corner of Shepherd and Willow avenues. It offers freshly cut protein along with breakfast and lunch options and will have made-to-order meals ready by the end of the week. The Business Journal

- ➤ Surveillance cameras captured an SUV dumping a soaked dog near Chestnut and Ashlan, and rescuer Alexus Hernandez saved the pitbull mix now called Elvis—Fernandez is caring for him and working to find him a permanent home. KMPH

- ➤ Boots in the Park announced it will return to Woodward Park on April 18 with country singer Jon Pardi headlining and supporting acts Koe Wetzel, Jackson Dean, Meghan Patrick, and Matt Cooper set to perform. Past shows have hosted stars like Blake Shelton, and Pardi has performed in Fresno before. The Business Journal

- ➤ Many Californians have been leaving the state for cheaper places — 254,332 residents moved to states like Texas, Florida and South Carolina because high living costs and wildfires make living here hard. KMPH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fresno Unified School District is working with the FBI to recover $2.2 million lost in a 2024 phishing scam that misdirected two contractor checks. The district had recovered $4 million before one check was nearly emptied and the remaining funds are held by a credit union unwilling to release them — prompting new safeguards in its business procedures. - ➤ Fresno received nearly 2.5 inches of rain by mid-morning Monday which pushed the city's total to 353% of normal as a colder Canadian storm dropped snow levels to about 5,000 feet later that day. A weak storm will bring more rain Thursday while major reservoirs remain well above historic averages. GV Wire
