- ➤ Community members in Central California helped neighbors last Thanksgiving as local leaders organized food giveaways on November 24. Attorney Jeff Fayngor partnered with the Fresno County Boys and Girls Club to give away 400 turkeys, while Councilmember Maxwell and Councilmember Perea provided 650 meals and 2,000 turkeys (a boost amid rising costs). - ➤ In late 1871, railroad executive Leland Stanford inspected Anthony Easterby’s wheatfields and chose the area for Fresno Station over the planned town of Sycamore—this decision led to Fresno becoming the county seat by 1874. Sycamore later failed to grow despite an irrigation canal effort and was eventually renamed Herndon. KVPR

- ➤ Sid's Christmas Trees in Clovis opened last week on Herndon and Villa and will operate until December 24 (its final day). - ➤ A UC Davis study found that California’s dairy industry contributed $23.2 billion in GDP and supported over 150,000 jobs in 2024. - ➤ Travelers filled Fresno Yosemite International Airport on Monday 72 hours before Thanksgiving as officials urged passengers to check their IDs and arrive early, noting that fog and reduced flights added extra pressure. AAA projected record car travel on holiday roads while gas prices in Fresno dropped slightly—prompting drivers to allow more time for parking. ABC30
- ➤ Since late 2023, Wyoming-based Tynergy, LLC — backed by a $15 million award — has not yet chosen a Fresno site for its planned semiconductor and energy storage facilities, leaving local leaders expanding workforce training and enforcing water efficiency measures. - ➤ Fresno Unified changed its Black student support program in October to protect $250 million in federal funds and to support all marginalized students by renaming it Advancing Academic Acceleration & Achievement. - ➤ Councilmember Annalisa Perea confirmed that the Tower District Specific Plan, passed on November 20th, will guide future development to support small businesses — improve transit, enhance green spaces, and create community gathering areas. The plan aims to sustain the area’s unique cultural identity and promote a vibrant local environment. KMPH
- ➤ The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office asked the public for help in finding next of kin for 67-year-old Raymond Coronado, who was reported to be 6 feet tall and about 150 lbs. Officials have not located his family and ask anyone with information to call (559) 600-3400. KMPH

- ➤ Zaatar Euro Bistro will open by the end of the year in the former George’s Shish Kebab space at the corner of Champlain and Shepherd avenues in north Fresno and will offer over 80 menu items including Mediterranean omelets, hummus, and burgers. The owners (brothers Buddy and Robby Nassar) plan to operate lunch hours (10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday) to provide a broader taste of Mediterranean cuisine than other local spots. - ➤ On Friday night, a high school championship game at Daren Kolligiant Stadium in Fresno drew thousands, but officials allowed only 5,000 spectators inside — leaving many valid ticket holders turned away — and GoFan said refunds will be issued to those unable to enter.
