BUSINESS NEWS

  • Blackstone Chevrolet held a ribbon-cutting for the opening of its new Mega Used Car Center on Saturday, Dec. 6. The center, set up in a former empty lot, now offers about 300 used cars, a mechanics shop, and wholesale parts while Congressman Jim Costa highlighted its economic benefits.  KMPH
  • The Craft House (a nine-year family-run restaurant) in Old Town Clovis will close on Saturday, Dec. 20. Owners said challenges forced the closure after nine years of service and thanked employees and loyal customers for their support.  ABC30

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local neighbors highlight the need for diverse holiday Santas as Fresno Santa Terry Scott in the Black Santa Movement welcomes families seeking inclusive representation this season. Community voices believe his work helps every child see themselves in Santa.  KMPH
  • Yosemite Middle School hosted its 3rd annual Hmong New Year celebration (Dec. 6) where students and community members performed traditional dances, sang, and joined a local crafts fair. The school will host the celebration again next year.  KMPH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A UC Berkeley study shows CAL FIRE’s 25-year practice of prescribed burns in the Sierra Nevada has reduced wildfire risk and improved forest productivity—efforts that may later help lower home insurance costs. Experts urge continued careful burns to protect communities from uncontrolled fires.  KMPH

  • Diamond ‘Dogs announced their 2026 baseball schedule on Dec. 4, with Pete Beiden Field hosting 29 home contests for the Bulldogs. The team’s lineup (including a Feb. 13 to 16 opener against the Utah Utes) sets the stage for joining the Pac-12 on July 1.  The Collegian
  • Darius Acuff scored 18 points as No. 25 Arkansas beat Fresno State 82 — 58 at Simmons Bank Arena on Saturday. Arkansas built a large second-half lead while Fresno State ended a four-game winning streak.  ABC30
  • Fresno State softball announced its 2026 schedule that begins at home on Feb. 6 in the Kickoff Classic against Southern Illinois and Idaho State. The Bulldogs will face Washington, Texas Tech, California, Santa Clara, Utah State and Stanford as they play their final Mountain West season before joining the Pac-12.  The Collegian
  • Fresno State women’s basketball returns home from a 5-game road trip — where the Bulldogs lost three games before winning two — and will host the Pepperdine Waves at Save Mart Center at 5 p.m.  The Collegian
