COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Save Mart’s CARES Foundation announced a $100,000 donation to the Central California Food Bank to fund equipment upgrades that will help rescue unsold food from local grocery stores; the funds will buy commercial refrigerators + battery-operated scales to support Fresno partners.  GV Wire

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hyatt House Fresno Campus Pointe opened on Dec. 10 near the Save Mart Center. The new 138-room hotel with apartment-style suites, a fitness center, outdoor pool (and a 4,300 sqft conference center) marks the final piece of the Campus Pointe project near Fresno State.  The Business Journal
  • At Pardini’s in Fresno on Tuesday, nearly 200 people gathered as the Best of Central Valley Business Readers’ Choice Awards were announced, honoring winners in 40 categories including first-time winners like Chase Bank and Fresno Equipment Co. Nearly 160,000 votes were cast across the 12-year event (celebrating local excellence).  The Business Journal
  • Wake Me Up Farms opened on Champlain Drive and Perrin Avenue in northeast Fresno about a month ago and now serves artisan sourdoughs, cakes, cookies, salads, and drinks. The bakery will launch online ordering and curbside pickup on its updated website today.  ABC30
  • Fowler Packing Company, a family-owned business in Fowler, celebrated its 75th anniversary on Thursday, Dec. 11 by awarding more than 1,300 employees a $750 bonus — a gesture by CEO Justin Parnagian to honor their hard work and dedication.  KMPH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fresno Pacific University secured a $9.99 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc on Dec. 11 to expand ministry training for church leaders in the Central Valley. The funding will support launching a hybrid Master of Arts program (and new faculty hires and scholarships) as part of Lilly's Pathways for Tomorrow Initiative.  The Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cal Fire opened Firehouse 72 at Millerton Road and Saubrice Avenue on Thursday. The 7,000 sqft station (with three apparatus bays and water rescue capabilities near Milton Lake) was built over 20 years and strengthens community safety.  ABC30

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Diaz Martinez shared tips to protect children from RSV in a Made for More Health segment aired yesterday, Dec. 11; Fresno parents can learn more by calling (559-834-1614).  ABC30
  • Saint Agnes Medical Center received a record $13.6M donation on Thursday, Dec. 11 from the estate of King J. Richter, marking the largest gift in the hospital’s history. The funds will be invested in a new emergency department and improved care services for local patients.  The Business Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Hot Rod Willy's at Shaw and Fresno in north Fresno serves several types of pizza made by Eric Fick, including Chicago, California, Detroit and Sicilian styles. The pizzeria uses a family recipe for its tomato sauce and offers distinct dough textures that keep locals coming back.  ABC30

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Work has begun on downtown Fresno's Fulton Forum project as city council approved transferring 27,900 sqft of public right-of-way for Fresno Housing; funding remains pending for the planned 400 mixed-income units and a former CVS will be demolished to create space for the project.  The Business Journal

  • Fresno Grizzlies announced an early look at eight 2026 game nights at Chukchansi Park — including Opening Night on April 7 and Independence Day Fireworks on July 4 — with select tickets on sale now. The rest of the schedule will be released in late January.  KMJ Now
