- ➤ Fresno Chaffee Zoo euthanized Jasper, the 15-year-old meerkat who helped form the African Adventure mob, Monday, Dec. 15 (after a health exam noted age-related issues). KMPH

- ➤ Fresno will celebrate the 50th Hmong New Year at the Fairgrounds from Dec. 26 to 29 with dance competitions in mini, junior & senior divisions and live DJs along with a multimedia exhibit showcasing Hmong heritage. - ➤ Downtown Fresno hosted its evening Christmas parade on Dec. 13 — Santa filmed the crowd as old school cars, Volkswagen vans and ATVs lit up Fulton Street for a festive display. The Collegian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval condemned antisemitic vandalism on campus after officials removed graffiti from three defaced sites on Dec. 15 — the investigation is ongoing and community members are urged to report further incidents. The Collegian
- ➤ Fresno Unified leaders warn the proposed Southeast Development Area could drop enrollment and force school closures if families shift to nearby districts. The City Council will vote on the plan Thursday + mayor Dyer touts its benefits for affordable housing and business growth. ABC30
- ➤ Construction began on Roosevelt High School's new auxiliary gym during Thanksgiving break to give over 2,000 students access when outdoor play is limited. The 13,000 sqft facility (located between the pool and theater) will include a gym, lobby, snack bar and classrooms to boost physical education and sports. ABC30
- ➤ Fresno’s first mobile 911 dispatch classroom launched Monday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, offering students hands-on training with real dispatch consoles. The program is a Fresno Regional Occupational Program and Fresno City College partnership that uses realistic simulations to build a career path in dispatch. KMPH
- ➤ Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) will serve free meals to students from age 1 to 18 during winter break from Dec. 23 through Jan. 9 at Bullard, McLane, and Sunnyside High Schools; meals must be eaten on school grounds and are offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. KMPH

- ➤ Fresno County inspectors visited Tacos El Cabezon in northwest Fresno after a customer reported illness and found health violations including unrefrigerated food and fly infestations; the restaurant corrected the issues, secured proper permits, and now operates normally. GV Wire
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Fresno broke ground on an 8-story parking structure on Broadway and Tuolumne on Monday that will support local businesses and a nearby housing development with more than 450 market-rate and affordable units. The project is funded by a $44.3-million grant and $250-million in state funds. ABC30
- ➤ Fresno's Fashion Fair Mall (974,000 sqft) will start a multi-year renovation in late spring 2026 and finish by 2028, updating its Outdoor Village, seating, lighting, and restrooms while keeping stores open.
