Fresno County has its first two flu deaths of the season. The county health department confirmed them Monday, and both people were over 65, according to county data through Oct. 24.

Flu is climbing across the Central Valley. Hospital and wastewater data show infections rising. Last season's first death wasn't reported until January.

This year's first two deaths were confirmed Monday, Nov. 2, which could mean flu season is arriving early.

  • Peak flu season usually runs December through February
  • Higher risk: adults 65 and older, children younger than 5, pregnant people
  • Shots: pharmacies, clinics and doctors' offices
  • Book an appointment at myturn.ca.gov

If you haven't had your flu shot, we suggest booking one this week. California health officials recommend it for everyone 6 months and older, and kids under 9 with one or fewer lifetime doses need two, four weeks apart.

Device screens show the right races, and County Clerk James A. Kus confirmed votes will still be counted in the correct contest.
