Two people have died of flu in Fresno County as activity rises across the Valley

If you haven't gotten a flu shot yet, now's the time. The Fresno County Department of Public Health confirmed Monday that two people have died of influenza so far in the 2026-27 season, and it gave no other details about them. Emergency department visits, hospitalizations and wastewater testing show flu activity is rising across the Central Valley.

The county's Department of Public Health announced the deaths Monday.

“With influenza infections increasing during this time of year, it is important for people to get a flu vaccine if they have not already done so.”

Dr. Trinidad Solis, Fresno County Health Officer

We suggest not waiting: the county's Immunization Program offers shots at no cost through insurance plans, including Medi-Cal. Nationwide, 83 adults ages 18 to 64 and five children had died of flu as of Oct. 24, the county said, and California had recorded 87 deaths, two of them children.

The Wrap

A Syrian-pastry cafe in Northwood has poured 8,000 date lattes in two months. Rumi Coffee, at Alluvial and Fresno Street, opened in July from the owner of Fabiano Coffee Roasters, and its top seller is a golden date latte with date syrup that drinks like caramel. Baklava on the side sounds right.
